JENCODER’s expertise in motion feedback began before 1997, within the Jayashree Group itself. Established in 1972, the Group has spent over five decades building precision electrical and electronic manufacturing capability in Pune, India. Group company Jayashree ElectrodevicesPvt. Ltd. pioneered Conveyor Safety Switches in India and has manufactured servo motors with built-in encoders and matching servo drives for material handling and conveyor applications for over three decades, engineering encoder-integrated motion systems before JENCODER was founded as a dedicated, standalone encoder manufacturer.

Textile Machinery

In weaving, spinning and winding operations, multiple machine sections must move in exact synchronization: a spinning frame’s spindle speed, for instance, must stay precisely coordinated with the yarn take-up mechanism, or the yarn will either snap under excess tension or bunch up from slack. Encoders mounted on rollers and spindles continuously report rotational speed and position back to the machine’s control system, which uses that feedback to make micro-adjustments in real time. Without this constant feedback loop, textile machines would drift out of sync, leading to uneven tension, thread breakage, and inconsistent fabric quality, which is why encoder accuracy directly affects a textile mill’s yield and rejection rate.

Packaging Machinery

Packaging lines are fundamentally about timing. A product must be in the exact right position before a filling nozzle, sealing head, or label applicator activates. Encoders track the position and speed of conveyors and rotating components, allowing the control system to trigger these mechanisms at precisely the right moment. At high line speeds, even a fractional delay or misread position can cause misaligned labels, spillage, or damaged packaging. Hence, encoder responsiveness and resolution directly determine how fast a packaging line can run without increasing its reject rate.

Machine Tools

CNC machines and other precision machine tools rely on encoders to know exactly where a cutting tool or spindle is positioned at any given moment, and how fast it’s moving. This feedback closes the control loop between the machine’s programmed instructions and its actual physical movement. Without it, the machine would have no way to correct for mechanical slippage, backlash, or drift. The result of poor or missing encoder feedback in this context isn’t a minor error; it’s out-of-tolerance parts, poor surface finish, and scrapped material, all of which are expensive in a machining environment.

Material Handling Equipment

Conveying, sorting, and hoisting systems depend on encoders for two things: knowing where an object is on the line, and controlling how fast it’s moving. In automated warehouses and sorting facilities, encoders help synchronize multiple conveyor sections so items transfer smoothly between them without jamming or falling. In hoisting and lifting applications, encoders also provide critical safety feedback, helping systems avoid over-travel or sudden, uncontrolled movement.

Elevator & Lift Systems

An elevator’s control system needs to know precisely where the car is within the shaft at all times. Not approximately, but to a level of accuracy that allows it to stop level with the floor, every time. Encoders (often hollow-shaft designs mounted directly behind the drive motor) continuously report position and speed, allowing the controller to decelerate smoothly and stop accurately. This is also a critical application: encoder failure or inaccuracy in an elevator system can result in mis levelling, jerky stops, or safety system faults. Hence, elevator-grade encoders are typically built with shock and vibration-absorbing mounts.

Printing & Inkjet Systems

Print quality depends on precise registration, ensuring that ink is deposited in exactly the right place relative to the material moving beneath the print head, at speed. Encoders track the real-time position and speed of the substrate (paper, film, fabric, etc.) as it moves through the press, allowing the system to time ink deposition or roller engagement with high precision. In rotogravure and web-fed printing, even small timing errors compound across a print run, causing visible misregistration or colour mismatch. Which is why encoder resolution is directly tied to print quality at commercial speeds.

Industrial Automation

Most closed-loop automated systems, regardless of specific application, operate on the same basic principle: a controller issues a movement command, and it needs feedback confirming that the movement actually happened as intended. Encoders provide that feedback mechanism. Without them, automation systems would be operating “blind,” relying purely on open-loop assumptions about motor behaviour, which can break down quickly in the presence of load variation, mechanical wear, or environmental interference.

Factory Automation

As factories add more automated stations, robotic arms, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), pick-and-place systems, the coordination between these stations becomes as important as the accuracy of any single one. Encoders provide the shared timing and positional reference that allows multiple automated systems to hand off work to each other reliably, station to station, without collisions or misalignment.

Process Industries

In continuous process environments (chemical processing, bulk material handling, etc.), encoders often operate in harsh conditions, dust, vibration, temperature extremes, and continuous duty cycles. Here, their role is less about split-second precision and more about long-term reliability: consistent speed and position feedback that keeps pumps, mixers, and conveyors operating within safe and efficient parameters over extended, uninterrupted runs.

Robotics & Motion Control

A robotic arm’s ability to repeat the same precise movement thousands of times depends on high-resolution encoder feedback at each joint. The encoder tells the control system exactly how far each joint has rotated, allowing it to correct for any deviation from the intended path. Higher encoder resolution translates directly into tighter repeatability, which is why encoder specification is often one of the first technical decisions made when designing a robotic system.

Special Purpose Machines (SPMs)

Custom-built machines often do not fit standard automation templates, as their feedback requirements (such as mounting configuration, resolution, and environmental ratings) are typically non-standard. Encoders here need to be engineered around the machine’s specific geometry and operating conditions; hence, application engineering and custom encoder design matter more in this category than almost any other.
